Jon first flew UAV's in Iraq while serving as a Scout/ Sniper in the United States Marine Corps, and the usefulness of on-demand aerial imagery had an immediate impact. He was later able to incorporate drone imaging into anti-terrorism efforts in Mali while a member of a special operations advisory group in 2009

Since leaving military service, Jon has pursued knowledge of the Earth, Earth Systems Science, and Remote Sensing applications. Jon holds a B.Sc. in Environmental Geology, a M.Sc. in Geology, and a post graduate certificate in Remote Sensing from the Penn State University. Jon also brings over seven years of exploration geology and field geological mapping experience to the organization, where he has sought to incorporate the valuable knowledge which can be gained from aerial data capture into understanding the Earth's surface and subsurface
Prior to launching LF Aerial, Jon was able to apply machine learning to remotely sensed data and UAV imaging to a mineral exploration environment, helping to grow known gold resources and saving time and money in operations towards an updated Mineral Resource Estimate and Mine Plans
